Born in 1949, in Essex, David Smith left school at 15 years of age
and spent the next few years in various occupations until finally
training to be a bricklayer.
His grandfather, himself a keen amateur artist, encouraged him to paint
from an early age but it remained just a spare time activity until 1978
when he decided to make painting his full time career.
Since that time, his work has gone from strength to strength. His delightful
paintings of the English landscape, which so obviously echo his love of the
countryside, attract great admiration from all who see them.
He has rapidly become one of the leading landscape artists in England
His work is in collections in Great Britain, Europe, Bermuda, Australia,
the USA and , until just recently, the Harrods gallery.
David now lives in Cold Norton, Essex with his wife and three children and
continues his love affair with the English countryside.
